General Questions

Q: Can Hyland’s Restful Legs be taken for Restless Legs Syndrome?

A: No. If you believe you have Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), please consult your doctor or health professional immediately.

Hyland’s Restful Legs tablets are indicated specifically to relieve symptoms of leg jerks and twitches; creeping, crawling itch in the legs; restless legs when lying down and made better with movement; and a constant urge to move the legs.

Q: How is Hyland’s Restful Legs different from Hyland’s Leg Cramps? Can these products be used interchangeably?

A: Hyland’s leg pain formulas address substantially different conditions. Specifically, Hyland’s Restful Legs addresses symptoms of leg jerks and twitches, a creeping, crawling itch in the legs accompanied by a constant urge to move the legs. Hyland’s Leg Cramps relieves cramping pains in the calves and feet – generally, when people experience leg cramps, they want to remain still rather than move their legs. For maximum effectiveness, we recommend that you match your symptoms to the formulas on the Drug Facts panel of the product cartons.

The table below compares the symptoms indicated for the two different formulas.

Q: How many tablets can I take in one day? (What is the maximum number of tablets I can take in a day?)

A: Homeopathic medicines such as Restful Legs should be taken as directed on the label. With homeopathic products, taking more tablets does not necessarily result in more response to the medicine.

Q: If I wake up in the middle of the night, can I take 1 or 2 extra tablets?

A: Yes.

Q: How long can I take Restful Legs for?

A: Since Restful Legs is non-addicting, you can take this product as needed for an extended period of time without worry. However, be aware the tablets were not designed to be taken indefinitely. Take Restful Legs as labeled and discontinue use when symptoms are completely resolved. It is fine to restart Restful Legs if symptoms recur. If the symptoms persist for 7 days and worsen, consult your physician. Chronic leg jerks can be a symptom of a more serious problem.

Q: What if symptoms never fully resolve? Can I still continue taking the medicine to relieve my symptoms as I experience them?

A: If symptoms persist after 7 days, you should consult your doctor.

Formula

Q: What’s in the tablets that makes them work?

A: Hyland’s Restful Legs contains 3 botanical-based and 3 mineral-based homeopathic medicines that trigger the body’s defenses to repair itself from symptoms of leg jerks, creeping crawling itch, and the compelling urge to move the legs – faster than the body is able to on its own:

  • Arsenicum Album 12X HPUS - creepy, crawly itch

  • Lycopodium 6X HPUS - restless legs, while lying down

  • Pulsatilla 6X HPUS - constant urge to move legs

  • Rhus Toxicondendron 6X HPUS - restless legs, better with activity

  • Sulphur 6X HPUS - itching, tingling, urge to move legs

  • Zinc Metallicum 12X HPUS- twitching and jerking of legs, while sitting

In a base of Lactose (milk sugar), N.F.

Q: Why is there arsenic in the formula?

A: The product contains a medicinal form of arsenic in a concentration of less than 1 part per billion that has been used for over 100 years without history of ill effects or symptoms of toxicity.

Q: Does Restful Legs contain any aspirin?

A: No.

Q: Does Restful Legs contain any gluten?

A: No.

Dairy and Lactose Intolerance

Q: I am allergic to dairy products. Is that a problem with these tablets?

A: People who are truly allergic to dairy can’t tolerate the proteins found in the dairy products. We don’t use these proteins, called casein, in the production of Hyland’s Restful Legs. We use only the sugar component of cow’s milk, called lactose. There is rarely a problem among dairy allergy people using these products. If you are very concerned, seek the advice of a licensed health care professional before using this product.

Q: What is lactose?

A: Lactose is the sugar component of cow’s milk.

Q: What if I’m lactose intolerant? Is that a problem with these tablets?

A: People who are lactose intolerant have not yet developed the enzymes to digest lactose. Hyland’s Restful Legs tablets contain about 194 milligrams of lactose (the sugar from cow’s milk; no protein is used) per tablet. While everyone is different, most lactose intolerant individuals need to ingest 5000 mg of lactose before they experience symptoms of intolerance. With this large margin of safety, there is rarely a problem with our products when used as directed on the label. If your physician has determined that you are specifically “Allergic to Lactose”, you should avoid our tablets. If you are very concerned, seek the advice of a licensed health care professional before using this product.
